Luxor Excursions by Bike: West Bank & Ancient Tombs

Aperçu
Almost everyone sees the Theban west bank through a car window between air-conditioned stops. These private Luxor excursions by bike replace the vehicle with a bicycle, and the difference is not athletic — it is that you finally see what sits between the monuments.
The ground these Luxor excursions cover is flat. Genuinely flat — it is Nile floodplain, and the only climb on the route is the short ramp up to Hatshepsut. Between the tombs you ride past sugar cane, alfalfa, donkey carts and villages where people wave at you rather than sell you anything.
You cross the river in the morning, ride roughly 20 kilometres over the course of the day with long stops, break for a proper Egyptian lunch, and are back in Luxor by late afternoon.

Luxor Excursions : Start with a Typical Egyptian Breakfast
Start with a Typical Egyptian Breakfast
Your guide meets you for a short boat ride across the Nile to the West Bank, where your bikes await. Kick off your adventure with a delicious Egyptian breakfast — fresh falafel sandwiches and mint tea served in a local café. It’s the perfect start to your Luxor day.
Cycle to the Valley of the Kings
Ride through peaceful farmlands where locals tend their crops, children play, and donkeys pull wooden carts. The scenery shifts from green fields to golden hills as you approach the Valley of the Kings — home to Egypt’s royal tombs. Explore three ancient tombs decorated with colorful scenes from the afterlife, and if you wish, enter the famous Tomb of Tutankhamun (extra ticket required).
Temple of Hatshepsut
Next, pedal toward the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt’s only female pharaoh. Built directly into the cliffs, this temple is one of the West Bank’s most impressive sights. Your guide will share stories of Hatshepsut’s power, her trade expeditions, and her bold legacy carved in stone.
Lunch Break: Authentic Egyptian Meal
Take a break and enjoy a home-cooked meal at a local family restaurant. Savor flavorful stews, grilled meats, and warm bread fresh from the oven. This cozy stop lets you experience real Egyptian hospitality.
Temple of Medinet Habu
After lunch, cycle to Medinet Habu Temple, built by Ramses III. Famous for its bright wall carvings that still glow with color after thousands of years, this massive complex was both a temple and fortress. As you explore, your guide will reveal stories of pharaohs, battles, and rituals that once filled these halls.
Colossi of Memnon & Return
End your tour with a stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two towering statues of Amenhotep III that have watched over Luxor’s West Bank for more than 3,000 years. Snap your final photos, then cycle back to the Nile for your relaxing boat ride and drive back to your hotel.

Questions fréquentes
How hard are the Luxor excursions by bike?
Easy. The Theban west bank is Nile floodplain and almost entirely flat; the only rise is the short approach to Hatshepsut. Around 20 kilometres spread across a full day with long stops at every site.
What type of bikes are used?
Hybrid bikes with gears, maintained locally and sized to you on the morning. Helmets are included. Tell us your height when you book and we have the right frame waiting.
Can children join this tour?
Children from about twelve upward ride comfortably. For younger children we recommend the vehicle version of the same route instead — ask us and we quote it.
How many tombs are included?
Three tombs on the standard Valley of the Kings ticket, chosen by your guide on the day for what is open and least crowded. Tutankhamun and Seti I need separate tickets, available on site.
What is included in the price?
The bicycle and helmet, the Nile crossing, a licensed Egyptologist for the full day, entrance tickets to the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut and Medinet Habu, lunch at a local restaurant and water throughout.
What is not included?
Extra tomb tickets, drinks with lunch, gratuities and personal expenses.
Is it safe to cycle on the west bank?
Yes. The roads between the sites are quiet agricultural lanes rather than highways, a guide rides with the group throughout, and a support vehicle shadows the route in case anyone wants to stop riding.
When is the best time of year?
October to April. Summer rides run with an earlier start and a shorter afternoon, and cost less.
